CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

At Breath and Body Yoga, we believe in the transformational power of yoga. We are fiercely committed to empowering students, and teachers, to find inner strength, balance, and peace through physicality. We are determined to provide our students with the tools to utilize their bodies to their fullest potential and leave them in their greatness. We have established a clear, yet ever-evolving system which allows students to efficiently learn how to become mindful and aware of their bodies to unleash true physical power. The Breath and Body Yoga System guides students in the evolution of their yoga practice and influences their life off of the mat.  It is inspirational.  It is connective.  Physiologically speaking, we weave elements of Power Vinyasa Yoga with the natural curves of the spine called the Bowspring, an emerging alignment system to create a unique and powerful yoga practice. This system allows individuals to experience the body in a 360 degree, circumferential way. We are looking at the body energetically, as well as anatomically to consider our true bodily architecture and how we function in today’s world.

POWER FLOW

Open to all levels, this signature class links the vitalizing breath with the mindful movements of the body to create a powerful flow. You will cultivate strength, flexibility, balance, focus and awareness with the teachings of our “Action Principles." In every single class you will move through a series of Sun Salutations, lunges, strength building poses, balancing poses, backbends, and inversions. We offer modifications and intensifications during class to empower you no matter where you are in your practice. Get ready to take your practice to the next level as you discover your strength, challenge your boundaries, and awaken your spirit! Class is heated 88-90 degrees. Full description below

SLOW FLOW + MEDITATION

Come feel softer side of Breath and Body Yoga. We slowly move your body through sun salutations, balancing poses and hips openers. You will leave class feeling more mindful and revitalized with 45-minutes of slow vinyasa flow. We add a 15-minute meditation to the end of each class to reset the body, mind and spirit. This classroom temperature is unheated perfect for any and all levels. Full description below

HIPS + HAMMIES

It’s often believed that open hips and open hamstrings are the key to having an open heart. This class is a fun variation on our signature Power Vinyasa that focuses on diving deep into opening and strengthening the often tight hips and hamstrings. Be prepared to open your body during this hip and hamstring focused flow that includes deep lunges, hip stretches, balancing poses, and backbends. Class is slightly heated to 83-85 degrees. SLOW FLOW YOGA

Newer to Breath and Body Yoga? This vinyasa yoga, will introduce you to a series of strength building poses called the Sun Salutations. You will also learn the Breath and Body Yoga signature “Action Principles” through a series of lunges, balancing poses, backbends, and hip openers and inversions. Pose breakdowns will provide detailed alignment to give a greater understanding of the form, action, alignment, and benefit of each pose. Classroom temperature will range from 78-80 degrees. BOWSPRING

The Bowspring aligns the body in a position of readiness. It is an alignment for us to move with lightness and fluid power like a graceful animal. It is a natural curvy shape of the body that puts a spring in your step, and uplifts your mood. With this dynamically balanced posture, the breath can move freely without inhibition bringing a new level of vitality and energetic freedom. Bowspring Basics

This class will follow the latest version of the Seed Kata, a comprehensive full body sequence put together by John Friend and Desi Springer, the founders of the Bowspring. The Bowspring system is revolutionary to the standard model of static, upright postural alignment. In contrast, the Bowspring promotes a dynamic curvy position of the body in which the connective tissue (myo-fascia) can evenly engage on all sides of the body so there can be fluid movement with the minimum amount of force. This class will move slowly and mindfully so that beginner and advanced practitioners alike can take their time to get into the alignment in simple postures, which actually is where the most healing can occur.

MEDITATION & SOUND BATH CLASSES

Join us weekly for a 45-minute, non-heated Meditation and Sound Bath class. You will be laying comfortably in Savasana, on your yoga mat with bolsters and blankets to enhance your relaxation. You will be guided through a visualization meditation and be immersed in the healing frequencies of crystal singing bowls, gongs, ocean drums and chimes. Sound healing has been shown to enhance healing and relaxation of the physical body as well as the mind and spirit. Time is suspended as you enter a world of vibration, sensation and bliss. STRETCH CLASSES: GROUPS & PRIVATES

Welcome to the world of Stretch Bodywork. Breath and Body Yoga is proud to announce new classes, workshops, and privates using Stretch Bodywork technology. Each class is 60-minute class, non-heated and includes lacrosse balls, foam rollers, straps, bolsters, blankets, blocks and assisted stretching. This is medicine for the wear and tear your body tolerates. Stretch Bodywork combines active, dynamic, and restorative stretch poses with luxurious hands-on assists by trained stretch bodyworkers. Each class takes place in a small group setting and combines elements of the following stretch techniques:

1. Release: self-massage with foam roller and lacrosse ball to soften “stuck” spots and cultivate mind-body connection

2. Resist-Relax: proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation with a strap to improve a joint’s range of motion

3. Restorative Stretch: long, relaxed stretches using a soft bolster, blocks, blankets to calm the nervous system and gently aid stretch tolerance

Traditionally, yoga was taught one-on-one. Private lessons provide a setting in which your individuality can be completely addressed. The sequence and poses are selectively chosen and developed to meet your specific needs. Learning and practicing postures and breathing exercises at your own pace and within your own range is the most effective way to realize the true power of yoga. STAND UP PADDLE BOARD YOGA (SUP YOGA)

SUP Yoga Classes are here. Are you ready to get wet, bask in the sun and float down the beautiful Lady Bird Lake? SUP Yoga is a great way to improve balance, gain core strength, and connect with nature and friends. This 90 minute class includes, paddling up to downtown from the Texas Rowing Center, 45 minute practice, 10 minutes of play time, 10 minutes of svasana and padding back. Our staff brings out the GoPro and also takes photos during this class as well.

Practicing yoga on a SUP brings a whole new perspective to being fully present in the moment Asanas (yoga postures) create a new challenge while floating, requiring full awareness, acceptance of mother natures mood and of course a sense of humor! Please call to reserve your class.
